Our consignor, Ed Borash, was in the lock room at the Continental Arena on July 12th, 2002 to watch his friends Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal sweep the New Jersey Nets in 4 games, clinching the Championship in the Garden State. As per team custom, the Lakers were outfitted in their purple road jerseys with matching shooting shirts. With confetti in the air and champagne flowing, Ed Borash was gifted this historic piece of NBA history during the Game 4 victory lock room celebration. That’s right, this piece originated directly from the lock room during the Game 4 Finals victory
This signed Los Angeles Lakers warm up jacket was donned by Shaquille O'Neal during the NBA Finals as he prepared to thoroughly dominate the New Jersey Nets each evening. As a pregame shooting shirt, Shaq wore this in early prep for his game 4 Finals appearance where shooting extra free throws were standard practice. This pre game shooting shirt may have been lucky, as Shaq went 10-16 at the line, for a .625 average, which was okay for his standards.
Properly tagged, Nike NBA Authentics 3XL tag sewn to left outside tail with hand written 34 in black marker. Additional "34" written on neck tag.
2002 NBA Finals and U.S.A. patches present on left sleeve. Shaq has also signed the shirt in black marker along with a "2002 MVP" inscription. Shirt shows appropriate and defined wear. LOA Ed Borash, LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS Auctions
