Ray Fosse, 6’2”, 215 pounds, enjoyed a 12 year career playing for the A’s, Indians, Mariners, and Brewers. During his professional career, he appeared in 924 games and was named a two time All Star.
For this lot, we are offering Fosse’s 1976 home shirt. During the 1975 season the tribe adopted the solid navy blue shirts for their home games and continued to wear this style for a total of eleven seasons.
1976 the team had a single season unique design trait, as the “Cleveland Spirit of 76 Sports” patch was applied on the right sleeve. The standard circular Indians patch appeared on the opposite sleeve.
“INDIANS” is sewn on the front with white on red double tackle twill “FOSSE” is sewn with white lettering direct to the back of the shirt. Fosse’s uniform number “10” is sewn on back with white on red double tackle twill. Shirt compares favorably to period images.
The shirt was manufactured by the Wilson company and has the tagged applied in the collar. “76” appears as a box tag sewn on the lower, outer tail. Size 44 appears on the manufactures tag and is consistent with other Fosse shirts that have entered the hobby. Shirt shows heavy game wear with no staining, no fading, no tear or rips.
Final Grade (MEARS A9.5): Due to the replacement of the “Cleveland Spirit of 76 Sports” patch with a period, vintage replacement, (minus ½), the shirt was graded a MEARS A9.5.
