Offered for consideration, this lot contains a 1943-49 Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees H&B Louisville Slugger Professional Model Team Index Bat. Manufactured from superior high grade ash, the deep factory stampings perfectly contrast with the golden amber color of the wood. Solid and consistent game use is found throughout the length of the bat.

Although not supported by H&B personal bat records for Joe DiMaggio, examination of the 1946 New York Yankees team index bat records to confirm that DiMaggio signature model bats were sent to the team during the 1946 season. No model, length, or weight were listed, but the fact a signature model Joe DiMaggio signature model bat during this labeling period is confirmed.

Review of DiMaggio’s personal H&B bat records to confirm that during 1947, he was ordering the D29 model, which is described as having a half round end with small knob, this bat matches that description. Also, during the period of 1947-49, the weight request by DiMaggio was 35-36 ounces, and this bat at its current weight of 32 ounces may have been originally ordered within that weight range.

This bat measures 35”, which is not supported by H&B DiMaggio personal factory records for the era, as he was recorded as requesting 36” bats in this model. But, the team index lengths are not listed, and this bat may have been team requested at the 35” length.

Overall, a tremendous example of a 1940s Joe DiMaggio H&B Louisville Slugger Professional Model New York Yankees team index bat. With a strong visual appeal, superior wood, and deep factory stampings, this bat represents one of the finest team index bats ever offered.

Final Grade (MEARS A8) A base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat matching team index records, 3 points for heavy game use. LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS Auctions
