Born from the heartbreaking departure of the Milwaukee Braves and the wildly unsuccessful single-year existence of the Seattle Pilots, the Milwaukee Brewers have shown themselves to be a more than suitable baseball franchise since the team's 1970 beginnings. The team always seem to mirror their home city's blue collar and working class mentality, winning with pure grit and determination instead of finesse or spending. Sure, there have been more lean years than fruitful ones, but fans can hang their hat on the storied '82 season and the lovable cast of hometown heroes that exemplify baseball in Brew City - both of which are the centerpiece of this great 340-photo collection.

Included in this offering are shots of beloved Beers: Robin Yount (many), Paul Molitor (many), Rollie Fingers, Cecil Cooper, Don Sutton, Pete Vukovich, Gorman Thomas, Don Money, Jim Gantner, Sixto Lezcano, Ted Simmons, Ben Ogilve and Juan Nieves - owner of the team's only no-hitter. Numerous shots from the team's memorable '82 AL Pennant and even the occasional picture of a Seattle Pilot (including Ball Four author Jim Bouton and Lou Piniella) enrich this collection. Additionally, some of the favorite names from the lovable losers of the 1990s rear their heads into the lot; guys like B.J. Surhoff, Greg Vaughn, Dave Nilsson, John Jaha, Billy Spiers, Pat Listach, Teddy Higuera and Gary Sheffield.

The majority of the photographs are glossy, recently developed modern color photos (a rarity) that measure 8" x 10" in size. Reverse notations include: Photo stamps, photographer credits, editorial markings and player identification. (A0465)

This image originated directly from the archives of either "The Sporting News" or "SPORT Magazine" and was intended for use in the respective publication. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers.

News service photos are also included, and in those instances, are identified as such by their respective stampings. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes. As part of the production process for the newspaper, images may show production notes, photographer's stamps, date codes, and other markings associated with the production of the Sporting News newspaper. In all cases, each selected image is of superior quality, subject matter, clarity, contrast and condition. Each image was archived by the particular magazine (either "The Sporting News" or "SPORT Magazine") and, despite not including an official Sporting News or SPORT Magazine hologram, is assured its origin and provenance. Additional MEARS LOA included with each lot.
