Offered is a 1986 Mark Grace Peoria Chiefs locker door from Grace's first season in the big leagues. The door was obtained via a special charity sale by former Chicago Cubs A-level minor league affiliate “Peoria Chiefs,” it was among a truckload of team/player-used memorabilia offered up at the Chicago Cubs’ pre-season Fan Convention (circa 1990). Showcased in the Chiefs’ offering was this locker door, one of the sale’s premier items used by former Peoria players who had gone on to star with the Chicago Cubs at that time (Greg Maddux, Mark Grace & Joe Girardi). “GRACE” remains visible in the adhesive residue left by the original crude athletic tape nametag applied by the team in 1986. Grace’s first and only season with Peoria left no doubt to his future as a pro. In addition to his stellar defensive skills, Grace collected an “amazing” .342 batting, with 15 Home Runs and 95 RBIs in the shorter “A Ball” season (only 465 plate appearances). An engraved name plate has been affixed to the door by original purchaser for purposes of display (removable if so desired). Player lockers/doors remain one of the most difficult player-used display pieces to acquire. (D0377)
