Manufactured by Louisville Slugger and ordered by Robin Yount from 1986-89, this bat was favored during “The Kid’s” 2nd MVP season, 1989.
With the cupped end, Yount preferred the P72 model and used it almost exclusively ever since his first introduction to the model during the 1978 season. Measuring 35” and weighing a hair under 32 ounces, this bat was the staple model preferred by Yount during the 1986-89 era, all verified by Yount’s H&B personal bat records.
Now, let’s talk about game use. WOW. The force of Yount’s powerful swing is captured on this near perfect specimen. Starting in the area of the handle, a light to medium application of pine tar is visible, which was carefully covered by his Easton batting gloves. Moving up the barrel, in the area between the Powerized logo and the Yount facsimile signature, multiple black and blue ball marks appear to be sliding off of the barrel. This heavy game use effect was created from multiple contact of bat to ball in the near exact same area. Over 3 dozen additional ball marks care scattered above the barrel signature. 8 blue American League ball marks are found on the reverse of the bat. A small, thin, 6” sliver of wood is missing. Also, scattered throughout are dozens of deep stitch marks. Finally, the slice of wood grain where the “Robin Yount” facsimile signature was factory stamped finally submitted to force of Yount’s swing and loosened from repeated punishment. A better example of heavy game use on a Yount bat does not exist. I have personally examined 100’s of game used Yount bats and the “19” on the knob is a dead on representation of the Yount applied uniform number. A near mint black sharpie signature appears on the bat barrel.
Final Grade (MEARS A9): Base grade 5 points for bat matching factory records, 3 points for heavy game use, two points for documented player traits/use including 19 on knob, and minus one for lifting of front and reverse deadwood.
