Offered is a Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres game worn road jersey from the 1984 season which has been graded a MEARS A10. The jersey is a size 42 and shows moderate use. The RAK memorial patches on the left sleeve are in honor of Ray Kroc, the Padres owner who passed away in January of 1984 before the season started. Ted Williams considered Gwynn the best hitter he ever saw from this era. The Ray Kroc color scheme on this jersey make this example one of the more popular style jerseys ever made during the 1980's and this is the earliest known, from his first full season, jerseys that MEARS has ever authenticated and the only 1984 road jersey to ever surface and given the provenance and condition of this shirt, it is probably the finest known example of this great hitter. In fact, it is the only 1980's Gwynn jersey ever examined by MEARS at all. If that wasn't enough, this shirt dates to the 1984 World Series season as well. If you are collecting HOF jerseys or are a Padres fan, this jersey stands head and shoulders above any other example.
Early Gwynn exemplars are all size 42 jerseys with only two available exemplars from 1984 and three available exemplars from 1985. (none of which have been examined by MEARS and the same shirt could have been sold more than once.)
