Willie Aikens was the toast of Kansas City following the 1980 season. A .278 average with 20 home runs and 98 RBI helped make the Royals World Series worthy.
On baseball's biggest stage is where Aikens shined as he clubbed two homers in a Game 4 triumph. In the six game series, Aikens smacked four round trippers and hit at a .400 clip. But we must admit there was some added pressure on Aikens as his middle name was "Mays". When right, Willie Mays Aikens could do no wrong.
This size "46" jersey comfortably fit his 6'3", 220-frame during the 1981 season. The attractive powder blue pullover features a V-neck front with blue/white/blue incorporated into the sleeve ends and neckline.
All of the single-color white tackle twill identifiers show extensive use and have frayed consistently. Dirt marks appear near the Royals team disc patch on the left sleeve end. Decent puckering is also visible on each identifier. "AIKENS" is spaced atop the verso numbers.
Sewn in the collar is a Wilson size "46" label - correct for the period. A lone "83" year swatch is found in the tail. Both are consistent with the tagging incorporated by Kansas City.
