Mario Mendoza is affectionately known as the man who inspired The Mendoza Line. Although he had a .215 career average, Mendoza is the one who hovered around the .200 mark long enough to be given the dubious nickname.
This size "42" jersey was created for Mendoza for 1981 but was not needed because he was traded in Dec. of 1980. Two points lead us to believe it was created for the 1981 season. There is a number change instituted and this style was first used in '81.
The identifiers are crafted in two-color tackle twill and have frayed from launderings. A Rawlings manufacturer's tag is sewn in the tail. There are a number of loose threads on the right side. No year tag present. "MENDOZA" is sewn on a nameplate and arched atop the verso numbers.
