During the 1976 season, Robin Yount was establishing himself as a major league ball player. For the year, he appeared in 161 games, swatted 161 hits, and batted a respectable .252 and proved himself as a consistent shortstop.
This bat, dating to 1976 based on the length (35”), weight 34 ounces, and model (K75) was only ordered by Yount during the 1976 season as supported by his personal bat records archived by Louisville Slugger. The Bi-Centennial Liberty Bell barrel stamp is not found on this example which was predominately placed on Louisville Slugger barrel’s by the factory during the 1976 season. Examples of the Big Red machine 1976 game used bats support that not all bats were found with the stamp.
The bat exhibits heavy game use with deep seam marks and numerous ball marks. Yount’s document”19” appears on the knob and was placed their personally. The style of the 19 is documented and archived in the MEARS archives. An interview with Yount at the MEARS museum confirmed that he was the architect of his bat knob numbering and this example is consistent with all known high grade authentic examples. Bat rack marks consistent with those found at County Stadium round out the character traits of this bat. Final Grade MEARS A9.
