This lot of 29 photos captures images of the 1974 World Series featuring the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Athletics would win the series in 5 games taking home their third World Series title in as many years.
Oakland ended the year with a 90-72 record to win the AL West. They were led by AL Cy Young award winner Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue and Rollie Fingers who contributed to an AL best 2.95 team ERA. The offense scored the third most runs in the AL that year behind strong years from Reggie Jackson, Sal Bando, Joe Rudi and Gene Tenace.
The Dodgers finished the year 102-60 leading the league with 798 runs scored and also leading the league with a 2.97 ERA. On the offensive side the team was led by Steve Garvey who won the MVP with a .312 batting average, 21 home runs and 111 runs batted in, while also getting strong contributions from Bill Buckner and Jim Wynn. The pitching staff was headed by starters Andy Messersmith and Don Sutton though the real standout was Cy Young winning releiver Mike Marshall who appeared in a major league record 106 games.

Designated as a Type 1 photo, this image was developed directly from the original photographers negative within approximately two years of the depicted person/event. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer and sent to the Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation Type 1 photographers print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes.
