This is an interesting bat in that it is a rookie era Driessen bat but instead of Driessen’s number 22 which he wore during this entire era with the Reds, it has Joe Morgan’s number 8 on the knob. Everything else matches Driessen’s specs, a signature model S44 that is 34.5” and weighs 33 oz with moderate game use (the majority of which is above the barrel stamp), stitch marks, cleat marks and a 3” handle crack. Driessen hit for .301 his rookie season in 1973 and became the starting third baseman in 1974. Morgan meanwhile, was the MVP in 1975 and sparked the Reds into what is considered one of the most exciting World Series ever. The bat grades an A8 as a two player bat and would be an unusual item for anyone collecting Big Red Machine bats. LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS Auctions
