Tim McCarver is probably best known for his post-playing career behind the mic as a broadcaster. However, the longtime Cardinals backstop managed a 21-year career, spanning parts of four decades. Toward the end of his career, McCarver served as personal catcher to the great Steve Carlton. On the offensive side of things, McCarver used this bat during his second stint with the Cardinals.
This 33 ounce, 35 inch signature model H&B Louisville Slugger bat comes from the 1973-75 labeling period. The model number W248 is imprinted on the knob. The ash instrument matches factory records and shows signs of heavy use, with heavy ball markings, deeply embedded stitch marks and a 3 inch handle crack. McCarver's number 15 appears on the (flare style) knob in black marker.
Grade (MEARS A9): 5 points for matching factory records, 3 points for heavy use, 1 point for documented uniform number on knob.
