On June 15, 1967, Dr. John Green, a podiatrist from New York sent a type letter to Vince regarding two pairs of shoes, his regular and golf shoes.
On June 19, 1967, Vince replied via a hand written note. The letter was then typed by his secretary; this lot consists of a full one page letter, all written in flowing pencil in Vince’s own hand. His response read in full,
“John,
The shoes arrived this afternoon and both fit me beautifully. I intend to try the golf shoes sometime tomorrow. Please me the bill for the cost of both pair, and I will forward you a check immediately.
Sorry we did not see each other in Ireland, but I believe I was already at home before you arrived in Ireland. Maris and I both enjoyed our trip through the Emerald Isle immensely and we thought Killarney particularly beautiful. I have written to Dr. Poreclli as of today apologizing for my delay and thanking him for all of the Italian goodies. The package set were items we cannot get locally
I have not read the Molo as yet and will be unable to do so until after July 13”
The letter is unsigned.
Included in this lot is the original letter to Lombardi by Dr. Green, Vince Lombardi’s pencil hand written response, and Lombardi’s completed type written reply finished by his personal secretary.
As training camp stated, I wonder if coach Lombardi already knew this would be his last one in Green Bay. Very rare hand written letter from coach Vince Lombardi.
