The Packers unprecedented three titles in three years run began in 1965 as Lombardi's troops buckled up the chinstraps in hopes of returning the title to Titletown.
This The Duke tan pigskin is signed by a whopping 47 members of the '65 Packers in black ink. We have linked the ball to '65 because it includes four players who were only rostered on that one squad: Rich Marshall, Dennis Claridge, Junior Coffey and Allen Jacobs.
Others who signed include: Lombardi, Ray Wietecha, Tom Fears, Red Cochran, Phil Bengston, Norb Hecker, Fuzzy Thurston, Tommy Joe Crutcher, Zeke Bratkowski, Max McGee, Lloyd Voss, Bob Long, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitschke, Hank Gremminger, Herb Adderley, Lionel Aldridge, Boyd Dowler, Bill Curry, Tom Brown, Don Chandler, Bart Starr, Henry Jordan, Bob Skoronski, Dave Robinson, Bill Anderson, Dan Grimm, Carroll Dale, Lee Roy Caffey, Steve Wright, Willie Davis, Doug Hart, Forrest Gregg, Willie Wood, Ron Kostelnik, Ken Bowman, Bob Jeter, Tom Moore, Jim Taylor, Elijah Pitts, Marv Flemming, Jerry Kramer and one more.
"Willie Wood" is written in period green marker. Although there is no supporting documentation, it is our belief that this was done to identify the fact this ball was part of his personal inventory. Each player was awarded 2 footballs. The name, "Willie Wood" is indeed vintage and appears to have been placed on the football at the same time as the signatures.
