Provenance is always desirable when purchasing game used bat. This particular bat can be linked directly to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. Additionally, the bat can be traced to the very gentleman that helped make the field friendly and famous, the team’s groundskeeper.

Originating from the same source as the Drysdale and the Clemente, this 1965-68 Ernie Banks has all of the traits associated with a top rate gamer.

Factory records indicate this S2 model, 35”, 31 ounce bat was ordered repeatedly by Banks from the 1965-68 timeframe.

Desirable Ernie Banks game used bat traits can be found with the 14 carefully placed on the knob. It is clearly visible, but slightly obscured by what appears to be some discoloration from storage.

To identify this model (S2) for Banks, loyal clubhouse attendant Yosh Kowana personally added the S2 notation to the right of the centerbrand.

Bat exhibits heavy game starting at the knob and expanding to the handle area. Blue rack marks are found extending upwards towards the centerbrand. The handle contained a 12” handle crack that has been professionally repaired. In the area directly above the centerbrand are over a dozen clusters of vintage ball marks. Stitch marks are lightly embedded in the same area. Light deadwood can be found on reverse of the barrel.

Grading: 5 points were awarded for bat matching factory records. 3 points were assigned for optimal, heavy game use. 2 points were awarded for 14 on knob, yosh marks, and provenance. Minus ½ point for discoloration on knob.
