1964 Ernie Banks Chicago Cubs Game Worn Cap (MEARS LOA)

Offered is a Chicago Cubs cap which was donned by Hall of Fame slugger Ernie Banks during his 1964 campaign with the club. Ernie had a busy 1964 season, playing in 157 games and hitting 23 HR's. Wilson manufacturer tag sewn in sweatband and compares favorably with period Wilson hat tags from the era. The size 7 1/8 and production code GXC (meaning 1964) is also stamped into the band. Ernie's uniform number 14 is written in faded black marker on the underside of the brim. Examination with a digital microscope reveals the 14 to have been added before the game wear was applied, a trait expected to be found on an authentic game worn Ernie Banks cap. Heavy use shown. Very rare item that has been examined by the staff of MEARS and determined to have been worn by Ernie Banks during the 1964 era. (72Z0302)
