1963 Mickey Mantle Roger Maris & Ralph Houk New York Yankees "Boston Herald Collection Archives" Original 8 1/2" x 7 1/4" Photo (Boston Herald Archives Hologram/MEARS Photo LOA)

Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris and Ralph Houk are chewing the fat on this original 8 1/2" x 7 1/4" photo taken during spring training. The following appear on reverse: production notes, caption affixed, "Associated Press Wirephoto" stamp and Boston Herald Archives hologram.

The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
