The New York Yankees franchise had a knack for winning championships. After the Yanks were beaten by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1960 World Series, they put everything they had into the following season. Upon gaining a World Series birth in 1961, the Yankees looked on the 93-61 Cincinnati Reds as an obstacle to be overcome. This epic thirty six piece vintage photo lot documents the 1961 World Series between the Yankees and Reds and shows game by game images of the events that took place.
From game 1 to game 5, this stash of photos doesn't miss a thing. Featured in this lot are Yankees' Elston Howard's home run in game 1, a double play turned by Elio Chacon of the Reds, Gordy Coleman's home run in game 2 to even the series, a play at the plate involving Elston Howard and Elio Chacon, and many more historic gems. Besides the game photos, this lot includes shots of the locker rooms and of the owners. After the Reds evened the series at 1-1, New York would go on to win three straight, cementing themselves in baseball history.

Designated as a Type 1 photo, this image was developed directly from the original photographers negative within approximately two years of the depicted person/event. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer and sent to the Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation Type 1 photographers print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. News service photos are also included, and in those instances, are identified as such by their respective stampings. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes. As part of the production process for the newspaper, images may show production notes, photographer's stamps, date codes, and other markings associated with the production of the Sporting News newspaper. In all cases, each selected image is of superior quality, subject matter, clarity, contrast and condition.
