Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle were almost joined at the hip given their success in 1961. Affectionately known as the M&M Boys, Mantle and Maris are featured on each of these original eight photos - most 7" x 9" or close to it. At least one of the following appears on reverse: date stamp, production notes, photographer service stamp or writing. Each has a Boston Herald Archives hologram on back.
The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
