After the Brooklyn Dodgers bested the New York Yankees in the 1955 World Series, the stage was reset in 1956. The home Dodgers were looking to defend their title against a Yankee team that was out for revenge. Much like the '55 World Series, home field advantage was a theme. This series had everything from offensive explosions to complete game shutouts, all of which are captured in this incredible collection of photos.
One of the defining moments in World Series history is the perfect game thrown by Don Larsen. Featured in this lot are several images of Larsen's incredible game including the celebration with catcher Yogi Berra and Joe Collins. In the final game of the World Series, Jim Gilliam and Jackie Robinson helplessly sat in the dugout waiting the inevitable loss (Yankees would win 9-0). Also shown are Yogi Berra's home runs in the series as well as the jubilation that took place in the Yankee locker room. The Yankees pulled out their victory cigars after they had exacted their revenge.

Designated as a Type 1 photo, this image was developed directly from the original photographers negative within approximately two years of the depicted person/event. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer and sent to the Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation Type 1 photographers print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes.
