The Tigers wore the dark navy colored hats with the roman style orange "D" from 1947-57. This one has a black marker player number 38 under the bill. Given that they did not invent the black marker until 1952 which coincides with the first season (from this era hat) in which a player wore number 38 and 1955 being the last time, from this era, that a player wore that number, we can nail this one down to four possible years. Players that wore that number include: 1952 Dick Littlefield and Russ Sullivan, 1953 Paul Baumgartner, 1954 Suvernik and 1955 was Bill Froats. Hat was made by Tim McAuliffe and is not tagged with a size on the white leather band. Hat shows heavy game wear with some material missing on bottom of the bill. Collection of MEARS staff.
