Offered is a fur lined Dodgers jacket likely dating to the late 1940's to early 1950's. MacGregor size 46 tag sewn to interior of jacket along with a 41 box tag while "Dodgers" is sewn across the front of the zip up in white tackle twill script. The jacket originated from the family of Jack Champlin, who among numerous lifetime accomplishments including service during the Korean War, pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers class C affiliate Greenwood Dodgers of the Cotton States League in 1950. Per the accompanying letter from Jack's wife he also faced Jackie Robinson during either spring training or batting practice so it is possible the jacket originated from that encounter. Jacket is of Major League quality construction and if it was handed down to Jack at some point circa 1950 it is possible it was originally issued to Harry Taylor who wore number 41 for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1947 & 1948 seasons. Jacket shows heavy wear with slight tearing to the bottom of the zipper tape. In addition to the letter of provenance from Mrs. Champlin, a photocopy of a letter sent to Mr. Champlin by the New York Yankees inviting him to a tryout will also attend. (73A0445)
