Typed on stationary of The White House, this August 16, 1944 letter has been signed in pen by Elanor Roosevelt, wife of then-President Franklin Roosevelt. The statement signed by the First Lady reads "Dear Miss Dickinson: I read your letter and will try to see if anything can be done. The over-crowding in Washington is so great that many problems arise. Very sincerely yours,"
The approximately 6" x 9" piece of correspondence has two horizontal fold lines. The reverse side displays some slight (envelope crease-shaped) discoloration. Beyond that, it remains in great standing. NM condition. JSA auction letter included. A1520
