1942 George Mikan DePaul University College Yearbook From Freshman Basketball Season

There was a time when college freshmen were not able to participate in athletics on the varsity stage. Hey, it was hit the books first, sports had to wait one year.

This 1942 DePaul college yearbook shows 6-7 center George Mikan as a freshman. Two photos depict basketball's first true superstar. The main photo shows Mikan with outstretched arms holding a basketball in the air as a teammate leaps for all he is worth.
