Lot #58:

1940s Carl Hubbell New York Giants “St. Petersburg Times” Original 6.5 x 7.5 News Photo (“St. Petersburg Times” Hologram/MEARS LOA)

This second generation photograph displays New York Giants Hall of Fame hurler Carl Hubbell. Reverse includes 1979 and 1980 date stamps, pen-written identification and a St. Petersburg Times hologram.

The St. Petersburg Times traces its origin to the West Hillsborough Times, a weekly newspaper started in Duedin, Florida in 1884. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
