Another year, another World Series. That was the mantra of the New York Yankees in the 1930s. This OAL (Harrdge) baseball was signed by the '38 champs in a steel tip pen. Most are legible although some of the signatures have faded over time.
There is toning on the sweet spot and what appears to be a Lou Gehrig penning. The "g" from Gehrig's last name is evident but the rest of the name is very hard to make out. We put the ball under a black light and the first "G" on Gehrig's last name was evident. We included a photo in the descripton.
Overall, 22 team members signed the toned orb. Those who signed include: Joe McCarthy (scuff on autograph, deemed clubhouse), Earl Combs, Tony Lazerri, Frank Crosetti, Lefty Gomez, Johnny Murphy, Bump Hadley, Monte Pearson, Red Rolfe, Jake Powell, Arndt Jorgens, Art Fletcher, George Selkirk, Tom Henrich, Myril Hoag, Joe Vance, Jack Saltzgaver and a few more.
A JSA Auction LOA will serve as authentication.
