Lot #84:

1937 New York Yankees Team Signed OAL (Harridge) Baseball w/24 Sigs. Incl. Lou Gehrig Joe DiMaggio Joe McCarthy Lefty Gomez - JSA

One star was finishing up his career, not by design, while another was just beginning to establish himself as a top-tier player.

This OAL (Harridge) baseball is signed by 24 team members in black ink. Because of his larger than life stature in the game, Lou Gehrig is reserved for the sweet spot. The penning is faded and rates about "2" in strength. It appears that upstart Joe DiMaggio signed a side panel simply "DiMaggio". The second on-line photo will show what we believe is the DiMaggio early-career penning. Others who signed include: Joe McCarthy, Gehrig, Pat Malone, Frank Crosetti, Tony Lazzeri, Johnny Murphy, Lefty Gomez, Arndt Jorgens, Red Rolfe, Bill Dickey, Red Ruffing, Monte Pearson, Jack Saltzgaver and DiMaggio.
