Offered is a 1925 circa red and blue stitched A.J. Reach Company Official American League Ban Johnson baseball which has been signed on the sweet spot by Hall of Famer and 1922 American League MVP George Sisler of the St. Louis Browns. Per the book, "History of the Baseball by Brandon Grumbaum", this ball was consistent with the Reach manufacturing markings found on the 1925 offering. In addition to the red & blue stitching, Ban Johnson president stamping, and new version (first introduced in 1925) of the Reach logo, (sans 4 stitching on design), the patent mark, "Pat'd Aug. 31-09", appears on the reverse sweetspot which bears the "Official American League Ball" stamp. The combination of these markings are unique to 1925 only. Ball remains in excellent condition given its advanced age with light wear while all stampings remaining clear and legible.

George Sisler has placed a perfectly executed, vintage fountain pen signature dead center on the sweetspot. Although technically grading a 4-5, it displays much stronger due to the high quality of the sweetspot signature placement. Ball has been examined and there are absolutely no signs of additional signature removal. This ball was retired after George Sisler signed the ball.

Baseball Almanac confirmed George Sisler and the St. Louis Browns played several series at Comiskey Park. It was also confirmed that Sisler appeared in a majority of the games. This confirms the consignors story about the baseball being signed at Comiskey Park during a trip from Milwaukee. Remember, Milwaukee had no major league team during 1925.

Our consignor's grandmother worked in a Milwaukee bakery. A loyal customer made a trip to Comiskey park from Milwaukee during the 1925 season and was lucky enough to obtain this signature. A short time while, his sweet tooth was more dominant than his desire to collect, and the trade was made, this baseball for a doughnut. (54H0020)
