Our consignor received this bat from a gentleman named Frank Gebeau. Besides the bat, he had a copy of a signed photographed of Babe Ruth in his garage (copy included). The photo is inscribed to Frank Gebea and was given by Babe as a token of appreciation. Frank Gebeau served as a part time body guard for Babe Ruth in the late 1920s, earl 1930s. The exact connection of this Tris Speaker and Frank Gebeau could not be established, but we do know as the original owner of the Speaker bat, Gebeau had access to Babe Ruth and it can be assumed access to Tris Speaker, who gifted this bat to Gebeau.
This Tris Speaker bat measures 34” and weights 39 ounces, both acceptable for 1920s Tris Speaker game used bats from the 1920s. Bat has handle crack, deadwood on barrel reverse, and heavy use. MEARS LOA.
