Offered is a gem mint Western Costume Company Jersey that has First National Studio on the front. It has the sun collar and would fit a 5-7 year old child. This was one of the silent movie studio teams. In the beginning, First National, unlike other film studios, had no physical plant where they made their movies. Instead, they relied upon bidding for the services of well-known producers with box-office clout such as, D. W. Griffith, Louis B. Mayer, and Joseph Schenck. Ironically, one of the first films released through the new distribution company was the Warner Bros. film My Four Years in Germany (1918). Soon, other pictures followed such as the very first Tarzan film with Elmo Lincoln, Tarzan of the Apes (1918) and several vehicles starring Olga Petrova.
Soon First National set out to obtain the greatest stars, and left no doubt in anyone's mind that they also intended to pay the biggest salaries. This was proved when they signed comedian Charlie Chaplin, at $1,200,000 for eight, two-reel comedies a year. Chaplin would be his own producer, and would be free to make films longer than two reels, with First National providing for the additional expense. The following year, First National struck another coup by signing Zukor's prime attraction, Mary Pickford. A great early jersey from the earliest era of film making.
