As most collectors know, bats used by players seldom had the players name stamped on them until such time they were returned to Louisville Slugger and the name was stamped at that time for recording purposes. Take for example the game used Cap Anson bat that recently sold. It was acquired from the family and was simply a pre 1910 bat such as this but without the family history, it was very similar to this bat. Who could have used and returned this bat? The side writing is visible but no longer readable but the list of potential players who would have used this type of bat would be virtually every major league ball player during this era.
Bat measures 33" and weighs 40 oz.
Side writing area is visible but not readable.
Game use evident with most swelling on left side.
Bat remains uncracked.
The remains of the original shipping label are present. There is some very minor still closed grain separation on ball. Bat has the deep lathe marks on each end. The familiar residue from a century of storage still present.
The factory stamps are perfect making this one of the most handsome deadball era bats we have seen, perfect for that early baseball display. Collection of MEARS staff. MEARS auction LOA. 00060
