This scorecard is one of the earliest baseball relics we have handled. From 1883 is this New York Gothams vs. Boston Beaneaters scorecard. Yes even in the 1880s, the two cities waged fierce battles for baseball supremacy.
'
"Aug. 31 1883" is written on front of the scored offering. "Polo Grounds New York August 31 1883" is written on the inside of the scored gem. New York's leadoff hitter was none other than Buck Ewing.
There is moderate splitting on the fold marks and this beauty is barely holding together.
Overall, a museum quality scorecard from the earliest of baseball's days.
