1861 General Winfield Scott Signed Envelope and Dept. of Virginia Visitor's Pass

The "Grand Old Man of the Army," General Winfield Scott served as an active General longer than any other person in American history. The 53-year General played an active role in the War of 1812, The Mexican-American War and The Civil War, among many other conflicts. He even ran for President in 1852.

Scott has signed the envelope affixed to the upper section of the paper offered in this lot. Below, is a pen-written inscription that identifies Scott as the provider of the signature, and tells of the location in which the insignia was provided. Below that is a day pass to the Department of Virginia's headquarters, dated 1861, Scott's last year as active General.

The piece displays some discoloration, minor tears and slight blemishes, but still is a prized piece featuring the signature of one of America's finest military figures. A1535
