From 1967-1977 Tom Seaver had 911 plate appearances, where he belted 9 homeruns. During his time with the Mets, Seaver was pictured wearing both a flap and flapless batting helmet, image included of the flapless style. Supplied by the American Baseball Cap company, this manufacturing sticker and marks of this helmet is consistent with 1970s Mets and other examined MLB game worn lids from the era. 41 appears on the inside foam crown liner. No other player wore 41 during the era the helmet was issued to the Mets. No provenance was provided, so the helmet is attributed to Tom Seaver solely by the 41 player identifier which was applied in black marker. Inside sticker reads, “American Baseball Cap, Media, PA, 19063, size 7 5/8, Made in USA.” A second “Pro Cold” sticker with red lettering is placed to the right of the ABC label. Earlier, 1970s batting helmets were often found with the wording “Pro Cold” printed on the ABC label. Therefore, this may be a later 1970s Mets helmet, possibly used during Seaver’s final seasons before moving to the Reds. Signed in silver on the front brim. LOA MEARS (94V0232)
