In Indiana, basketball is a religion. Whether it be honing their skills on a farm basketball hoop or a street game in the inner city, basketball is revered at all levels. High school basketball crowds rival that of some college schools.
In 1999, the Pacers commissioned Logo Athletics to put together a Blue Ribbon Panel of experts to choose the fifty greatest basketball players in the state's history. Prep players joined college stars and NBA standouts on this treasured list. This signed basketball was displayed at Conseco Fieldhouse for a few years before being donated to the South Bend Homeless Center auction.
This oversized, stuffed basketball is signed by over 40 members. "50 Greatest Players" is engraved over an image of the state of Indian on one panel. We must report the pennings of Charles "Stretch" Murphy, Don Schlundt, Fuzzy Vandivier, Bill Garrett and Homer Stonebraker were executed by family members since each was dead when the list was announced.
