This lot of 60 pictures captures all of the key moments and players from the 1990 World Series pitting the Cinicnnati Reds against the Oakland Athletics. Despite being heavily favored, the Athletics would be swept by the Reds in four games bringing Cincinnati their first World Series title since 1976.
Cincinnati finished the regular season 91-71 to win the NL West largely on the strength of pitching and defense, finishing 2nd in the NL in ERA and 1st in fielding percentage. Jose Rijo and Tom Browning fronted the roatation, but the real strength of the Reds was their bullpen headed by "The Nasty Boys"; Rob Dibble, Norm Charlton and Randy Myers; who combined for 339 innings of 2.28 ERA relief. On offense the club was led by Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, Eric Davis and rookie Hal Morris who batted .340 after being called up from the minors.
The Athletics breezed through the regular season with a 103-59 record winning 9 more games than any other AL club. Oakland excelled in all facets of the game. Their pitching staff had the lowest ERA in the league and was led by Bob Welch, Dave Stewart and Dennis Eckersley who finished 1st, 3rd and 5th in that year's Cy Young vote. On the offensive end the team scored the 3rd most runs in the league behind AL MVP Rickey Henderson and the "Bash Brothers"; Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire; who combined for 76 home runs and 209 runs batted in.

Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer and sent to the Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation Type 1 photographers print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image.
