This lot of 60 photos captures all the key moments and players from the 1982 World Series in which the St. Louis Cardinals would defeat the Milwaukee Brewers in a wild 7 games.
The St. Louis Cardinals finished the regular season 92-70 playing a style of baseball dubbed "Whiteyball" after their manager Whitey Herzog which was based on pitching, defense and team speed. Their 200 stolen bases led the league as did their .981 fielding percentage, while the team finished third in the NL with a 3.37 ERA.
The Milwaukee Brewers conversely were dubbed "Harvey's Wallbangers" after their manager Harvey Kuenn and the team's propensity for the long ball. They would lead the league with 216 home runs leading to 891 runs scored, also tops in the league. Leading the way was AL MVP Robin Yount, though the Brewers also featured three other players who hit at least 30 home runs and drove in at least 100 runs; Cecil Cooper, Gorman Thomas and Ben Oglivie. On the pitching side the team was led by AL Cy Young Pete Vukovich, Mike Caldwell and Rollie Fingers; who would not be available for the World Series due to an arm injury.
