Mark Murphy was dependable and showed up on Sunday to assume his role of safety for the Green Bay Packers.
The undrafted free agent forged an 11-year career in the Titletown and resides in the Packers Hall of Fame for all of his work. This helmet was worn by Murphy between 1982-84. Numerous hit scrapes are visible, some colored in. A plethora of deep scratches still reside on the yellow surface.
The inside includes these prominent features: 1984 recertification sticker, date stamp and "7 1/4" (size) written in black marker. Both original leather jaw pads are still in-place as is the original chinstrap.
"37" is dymo labeled on the back. Murphy signed the reverse in black felt tip.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection.
