Offered is a home uniform donned by three time All Star hurler Luis Tiant near the end of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1981. It was his second from last season in the big leagues, and his only season with the Pirates. Tiant appeared in 9 games, posting a 2-5 record.
The offered jersey is the home style, knit pullover. Manufactured by Rawlings, the jersey is a size 42, which is correct for Tiant from the era. Rawlings size 42 tag sewn in collar while a box tag reading "38 81" indicating the uniform number and year of issue is sewn to the tail. "Pirates" and "38" are sewn to the white knit jersey in black on yellow double tackle twill while "Tiant" is sewn to the reverse via nameplate.
Also accompanying are a pair of Pirates uniform pants from the same season. Rawlings size 36 tag sen in the waist along with a set 1 1989 flag tag and a strip reading "22 36 23 81". Pants were likely issued to either Odell Jones (#22) or Grant Jackson (#23). Light use to both pieces with some mild game related staining to both garments, appropriate for the amount of games Tiant appeared. (62P0104)
