Dating (1979-85): Per the MEARS database, Tiernan was the supplier for Los Angeles Lakers from 1975-85. Jerseys from the era were not issued with year tags, so the style of the numbering is important to date the jerseys.

For the years 1975-79, Lakers home jerseys were white with purple outlines. During the latter part of 1979, the Lakers switched to purple numbering with white outlines. This style of numbering was used from 1980-85 circa. In 1986, the Lakers switched to Sand Knit supplied jerseys, and the year tag, 86 was included on the jersey. Tiernan used two styles of tagging. The printed version is seen from 1975 to 1985. During approximately 1982-85, the team also used an embroidered tag, thus the dating range. Both tags have been used through 1985.

Manufacturer (Tiernan): Tiernan was the supplier of Los Angeles Lakers jerseys from 1975-85. The style of the Tiernan tag is consistent with examples found in the Official MEARS Tagging Database (1975-85). Other examples of 1975-85 Los Angeles Lakers jerseys in the hobby to support Tiernan as the supplier include:

1982-83 Steve Mix Lakers (Home)

1982-83 Norm Nixon Lakers (Home)

1984-85 circa Magic Johnson (Road)

1984-85 circa Magic Johnson (Home)

1984 circa Jabbar Trunks (Home)

1979-1985 Magic Johnson (MEARS #314310)

Style: Jersey is a full mesh yellow body shell with rounded tail. Sleeve and neck openings consist of white/purple/white ribbing. “LAKERS” is purple on white double tackle twill. Both the front/reverse #32 and “JOHNSON” on reverse is purple on white double tackle twill. Jersey is absent of the NBA should logo which was introduced in 1986.

Size (approximate 42): Although not notated by a size tag, the 21” chest measurement would make this a size 42 jersey, which is appropriate for Magic Johnson during the era.

Wear: Jersey shows moderate to heavy game wear.

Final Grade (MEARS A10): When examining and comparing the jersey to the 5 categories of evaluation per the MEARS Official Worksheet, MEARS determined the following: zero points were deducted. MEARS A10. (59I0149)
