Offered for sale, 1979-85 Julius “Dr. J” Erving Philadelphia 76ers Game Worn Home Jersey. Issued as the white home pullover style, manufactured from Wilson mesh materials. The Wilson manufacturer logo is found on the lower outer tail, Wilson size 40. Directly below is the PEARSON Sporting Goods distributor tag. Wilson was a supplier of 76ers jerseys during the era.

The dating of the tag, (1979-85) is confirmed by the MEARS tagging database. The jersey size 40 is correct to be worn by Dr. J and verified by the following example:

1980s 76ers Home Size 40, MEARS #7305345

1985 76ers Home Size 40, Lelands 12/01

1980 76ers Home Size 40, REA 4/05

The chest measurement 19” and torso measurement 34” are both consistent with MEARS #305345.

The Sixers font (3 ½”), ERVING (2 ¾”), front 6 (6”) and reverse 6 (7 ¾) are all-original with no signs of restoration.

Additionally, the jersey is autographed in blue sharpie, Julius Erving, #6.

Photo Matching: Although most available Getty Images show consistency of font and lettering, MEARS was not able to provide an exact photo match of the item. But, based on the consistencies of the manufacturing traits, closeness of the style match, and the heavy game wear, in light of limited images, MEARS is 100% confident in this jerseys game use.

Game Wear: Jersey exhibits heavy game wear. All of the lettering and numbering exhibit heavy puckering to the twill. All of the anchor stitching shows signs of even fraying. The V of the neck collar has been lightly cut causing separation of the neck ribbing. The body shell shows even, heavy game wear and fabric stress and toning.

Final Grade: MEARS A10. Due to the fact this jersey is properly tagged, sized, has the correct manufacturer, and shows optimal game wear, the jersey was awarded the perfect 10 grade.

Collection of MEARS Staff.

NOTE: the auction image if for a visual reference to Dr. J only, and there is no connection between the offered shirt and the accompanying image.
