The life of a reliever is characterized by hours of boredom and moments of excitement. This rare and attractive bull pen parka belonged to one such player. The jacket is attributed to Will McEnaney by the #37 written in vintage laundry pen on the Wilson’s manufacturers label in the collar. The tag dates the jacket to the c 1974-1978 time frame. #37 was not issued by the Cincinnati Reds in 1974. In 1975-1976 the #37 was issued to McEnaney. For the 1977-1978 seasons, Dale Murray. The jacket is a size Medium, which is more appropriate for McEnenay than the 6,4”, 205 lb Murray.
Although even the most casual baseball fan can rattle off the names Rose, Bench, Morgan, Perez, Griffey, Foster, Geronimo, and Concepcion as the starters on the 1975-1976 World Championship teams, it will take a true Big Red Machine fan to know that Will McEnaney was the pitcher on the mound at the time the final victorious out was recorded in both Game 7 (Boston, Fenway Park - 1975) and Game 4 (The Bronx, Yankee Stadium- 1976). Talk about a pair of signature moments for a reliever. Speaking of signatures, this jacket features a solid one tying the garment to Will McEnaney’s moment in the sun and place in baseball history. Tremendous display appeal and something you just don’t see, even in the most advanced team collections.
