During the 1971-1972 era, Mike Schmidt gifted this travel bag to his high school coach. (We are not sure; they may have been the same person). Schmidt played with the Dayton Phillies in 1971, and then some time in the PCL in 1972, before being called up by the Phillies during the 1972 season. After the 1972 season, Schmidt gifted this bag and a game worn cap, to his high school coach.

One end, there was a piece of athletic tape which has fallen off but originally read, “Mike Schmidt”. Hand printed on the bag in faded, worn black marker is, “1618 Pinecrest, Dayton, OHIO”. Schmidt has autographed the bag in near mint black marker. “Schmidt” is written on the opposite in same black marker, but has been scratched out, mostly likely by the coach that intended to use the bag. Zipper intact and still functional. Very rare piece associated with the beginning of Mike Schmidt career. LOA MEARS
