Regarded as a prime piece of the unforgettable 1982 Milwaukee Brewers pennant-winning team, hard-hitting catcher Ted Simmons is arguably better known for the 13 seasons he spent with the Cardinals. This 34.5-ounce, 35-inch Adirondack bat comes from that St. Louis stint, before Simmons was packaged with Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich in a lopsided haul for the Brewers.
The signature model stick has the model number 256A on the knob, matching factory records. The 8-time All-Star carried this bat into battle with some regularity, as indicated in its heavy game use, heavy helping of ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, red bat rack marks and a 1-inch handle crack.
Simmons has included his signature in blue Sharpie on the barrel of the bat. His number (23) also appears on the knob in black marker.
Final Grade: MEARS A9.5. 5 points for matching personal records, 3 points for heavy game use, 2 points for uniform number and optimal game use, -1/2 point for 1-inch handle crack.
