Lot #863:

1969 Reggie Jackson Oakland Athletics "The Sporting News Collection Archives" Original 10.5" x 13.5" Choice Jumbo Oversized Photo (TSN Collection Hologram/MEARS Photo LOA) 1:1, Unique

Measures 10.5" x 13.5". Pictured here is Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson at the plate for the Oakland Athletics during the 1969 season. Jackson would be named to his first of 14 career All Star games that year and finish 5th in MVP voting on the strength of his 47 home runs, 118 runs batted in and a league leading 123 runs scored. On the Reverse: Russ Reed photographer's stamp, "Reggie Jackson in stance at the plate" hand written in black marker, The Sporting News hologram. (C1445)

With over a million images found in the complete archives of "The Sporting News Collection Archives", there were only a few hundred Jumbo Oversized images that were included in the find. Each image is unique, as there were no duplicate images of any subject. Unique in nature, each photograph is one of a kind! Matchless in quality, the color, contrast, tone and depths of the black and white media are magnified in the oversized format. Great images became phenomenal in appearance with this Jumbo sized format.

Unlike standard wire photos, these images were hand developed by the photographer and sent to The Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation photographer's print - again, not to be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. This is the first major collection of exclusive Jumbo Photos to enter the market.
