This lot of 23 photos captures the 1965 World Series which pitted the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Minnesota Twins. The Dodgers would win the series in 7 games winning their first World Series title since moving to Los Angeles.
The Dodgers were led in 1965 by pitchers Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Koufax would win the NL Cy Young with a 26-8 record and 2.04 ERA in 335 innings while Drysdale pitched in with a 23-12 record and 2.77 ERA in 308 innings. On offense shortstop Maury Wills provided the spark batting .286 with 94 steals.
The Twins would get to the World Series conversely on the strength of their bats, leading the American League with 774 runs scored with Harmon Killebrew, Don Mincher, Bob Allison and Jimmie Hall each knocking 20 or more home runs. Mudcat Grant and Jim Kaat led the pitching staff combining for a 39-18 record and 3.07 ERA in 534 innings pitched.

Designated as a Type 1 photo, this image was developed directly from the original photographers negative within approximately two years of the depicted person/event. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer and sent to the Sporting News magazine. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation Type 1 photographers print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes.
