Three-time All-Star and Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Jim Perry spent the entirety of his 17-year career in the American League. However, the hurler played in the pre-DH era, forcing him to try his hand at hitting. Overall, he managed 5 home runs and a .199 career average. Not bad for a pitcher.
Perry utilized this H&B bat at some point between the 1961 and 1964 seasons, as indicated by the center label dating. Perry's name appears on the 31.5-ounce, 35-inch bat's barrel in block lettering and has the model number D2 on the knob (matching known player factory records). It exhibits moderate-to-heavy use, a medium smattering of ball marks and light handle preparation. Perry's number (31) appears on the bat's knob in faded black marker.
Final Grade (MEARS A9): 5 points for matching factory records, 2 points for medium use, 1 point for provenance (documented uniform number on knob).
