Hartland statues are synonymous with being some of the most iconic sports figurines in history. Offered here is a chance to own what started it all. This lot features the original mold of the Stan Musial Hartland statue that was produced from 1958-62. After production ceased, these molds were believed to have been destroyed or permanently missing, but resurfaced in 2001. When the molds were received by Hartland, the molds were cleaned and figures were made of Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams and Hank Aaron. Plastic was injected into the molds last time and 25 final shots were produced and then the molds were discontinued after that. The molds are in two halves that weight up to 200 pounds each. The most are made of solid steel and have around 1/4 inch layer of copper on the impression surface. Once assembled, hot plastic was injected into the molds. The result was two complete figures on sprues. The figure pieces were then removed from the sprue and metal paint masks were laid over the plastic pieces and spray painted one color at a time. Lastly, the pieces were glued together and boxed for sale. (58L0264,58L0265)
