Frank Stanfield was an award-winning photographer that worked for the Milwaukee Brewers / Borchert Field (AAA), Green Bay Packers at Milwaukee State Fair, and the early Milwaukee Braves. His work appeared on card sets, programs, and yearbooks. Offered for this sale is a complete archive of all his work.
A total of over 6,500 different (primarily) 8" x 10" prints appear in this lot. Each print was hand developed from Stanfield's original oversized 4" x 6" acetate file negative. In today's age of computer aided digital imaging, hand developed prints are a lost art. Collectors, researchers, or dealers, this lot is valued over $70,000. The cost to hand develop prints in this manner cost $12.00+ apiece. Finally, the staff of MEARS has painstakingly provided each and every print in our lot description. Of the images included, there are numerous duplicates of most photographs. Additionally, many of the aforementioned 4" x 6" acetate negatives accompany the prints - making future developing a profitable possibility for the buyer.
From Braves greats like Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Warren Spahn, Lew Burdette, Bob Buhl, Red Schoendienst, Del Crandall and countless others to striking shots of Country Stadium and the fanfare surrounding the triumphant return of professional baseball to Milwaukee are present in these tremendous photos captured by a Wisconsin and all-around sports photography legend.
